Take care of your skin in the spring sun

After months of being hidden under layers of clothing, we’re all eager to soak up the sun’s warmth. But the winter chill may have left its mark, and your skin might be craving some extra love as the warmth returns.

Here are our top tips to pamper your skin in the first rays of spring sunshine.

Are there products that are especially good for the skin when the weather's getting warmer?

When the weather gets warmer, your skin tends to produce more sebum. You don’t need to replace all your winter products if they’re giving you the results you want, but with increased sebum production, switching to lighter products can be beneficial when your skin no longer needs protection from the cold. Sun Face Cream, Sun Face Oil, Sun Face Serum, and Sun Balm combine lightweight, nourishing care with effective sun protection — and they’re all designed to replace your daily skincare routine during the warmer months. Use them from the very first spring sunrays.

Should I use sunscreen every day, even if I’m not sunbathing?

When the sun is low in the Nordic countries during winter, sun protection isn’t necessary. But as the sun rises higher in the sky, especially when you’re near snow or water, it’s important to apply SPF. UV rays break down collagen fibers in the skin, and sunscreen is a simple way to help prevent premature skin aging.

How can I determine which SPF is right?

Ask yourself: How does my skin handle the sun? How long will I be outside, and at what time of day? Check the UV index where you are. If it’s high and you’ll be outdoors all day, opt for SPF 50 for the face. If you’re just heading to a café after work with a bit of afternoon sun, SPF 15 or SPF 30 may be enough. The most important thing is to apply the right amount of sunscreen to ensure you get the full protection the product provides. Sun Stick SPF 50 and Sun Balm SPF 50 fits in any pocket — ideal for those moments when you unexpectedly spend more time in the sun.

Can you use sunscreen from last year?

If your sunscreen hasn’t been opened yet, check the expiration date, which you’ll find on the top or bottom of Rudolph Care’s sun products. As long as it’s unopened and within the date, you can still use it. However, once opened, sunscreen is effective for six months. It’s important not to use old sunscreen, as there’s no guarantee that the sun filters will still work. So, make a note of the date you open your sunscreen and replace it if it hasn’t been used within six months.
