Every Rudolph Care product is packed with nutritious and active ingredients, which are all of the highest quality. The rose product series is built on five organic oils; açai, olive, jojoba, coconut and almond. The organic oils soften, moisturize and provide flexibility, while the skin's elasticity is increased and strengthened. The oils help to rebuild, nourish and protect the skin. We only use natural ingredients that we can vouch for - along with the good chemistry that does not accumulate in the body.
Rudolph Care products embody pure, simple sustainable luxury. In addition to live up to the requriments of our certifications, Rudolph Care is also 100% free from the 26 allergenic perfumes that should be avoided according to the Danish Ministry of the Environment and the EU. This means that there is a variety of things, that will not be found in our skincare.
Rudolph Care contains no known or suspected endocrine disruptors. No parabens, synthetic dyes, synthetic fragrances, essential oils, petrochemical oil and petrolatum.
The vast majority of perfumes are produced synthetically. A perfume that smells of roses has usually never been near a rose. However, on the positive side, the use of synthetic perfumes means 100% control over the substance and the ingredients of the finished product, even if the manufacturing methods do not fulfil organic certification requirements.
At Rudolph Care, we have chosen to use natural perfumes that are produced from natural oils without synthetic ingredients. If a perfume smells of vanilla, it is because there are extracts of real vanilla in the product. These natural perfumes are made with great care and under conditions that are non-polluting to the environment. These painstaking processes mean that natural perfumes are often much more expensive to produce than traditional perfumes. An allergenic certificate is included with all natural perfumes. We have chosen a natural perfume, which is completely devoid of the 26 allergenic perfumes the Danish Ministry of the Environment and the EU recommend avoiding.
Natural usually means 'good', but chemicals aren't always 'bad'. When something is chemically produced, it is made within a controlled environment with 100% knowledge of the content and impact of the finished product. This isn't always the case with nature and some organic ingredients can easily cause allergic reactions. Rudolph Care uses 'good' chemistry alongside natural ingredients that we can vouch for. This is how we provide the best all round product in terms of your beauty, your health and the environment.
Allergenic perfumes are substances that have the potential to trigger an allergic reaction. The Danish Environment Ministry and the EU have created a list of the 26 most common allergenic perfumes. These allergenic perfumes should be declared on a product's list of contents (INCI), so that consumers can make an informed choice before purchase.
Parabens are a group of chemicals used in cosmetic manufacturing as a preservative against bacterial and fungal growth. There is much uncertainty about the effects of parabens; some believe that only some parabens are harmful whereas others think that all should be avoided. The EU's Scientific Committee of Consumer Products suggests that two parabens, methyl-and ethylparaben, do not pose any risk when used in certain quantities. We have chosen to take a precautionary approach and stay on the safe side. That is why Rudolph Care is 100% paraben-free.
Do you wonder why the color of your Rudolph Care products can vary from time to time? The natural explanation is that we neither dye nor bleach our products. At the same time, we use natural oils, which vary in color from harvest to harvest. Rudolph Care products do not contain any synthetic dyes at all and are only available in the colors provided by nature. Since few raw materials are naturally pure white, Rudolph Care creams are not entirely white either.
It is only the Rudolph Care products containing water that are preserved. Preservatives are synthetically produced and added to increase the product durability. They are useful because every time you open a package to use a product, there's a risk that you will introduce bacteria and contaminate the product. Rudolph Care products use a very small amount of preservatives to minimize the risk of product contamination that could cause skin irritation or infection. Water increases the risk that the products are contaminated and that bacteria are added. We thus choose to use preservatives in some of our products, because we believe that you as a consumer are far better off with a small amount of preservative than the risk of being left with a contaminated product.
For products that carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and COSMOS certifications, there are stringent rules regarding the preservatives that can be used.
The Rudolph Care products without water are not preserved, but vitamin E has been added to reduce the risk of rancidity and bacterial growth, thus ensuring the sustainability of the product.
Natural essential oils have been used throughout the millennia, for many different purposes. They are natural and highly concentrated, but the vast majority of essential oils contain one or more of the 26 allergenic perfumes the Danish Environment Ministry recommend avoiding. And this is the reason why Rudolph Care products do not include essential oils.
Potassium aluminum is a natural mineral found in nature. It is an aluminum salt whose active crystals inhibit odor. This means that our Keep On Rolling Deo contains aluminum, but not aluminum chlorohydrate which is very controversial and suspected of being carcinogenic.
The aluminum content in our Keep On Rolling Deo is 0.42%. This means that it complies with the assessment from the EU's Scientific Council on Consumer Safety (SCCS) of 2020 that allows a limit of 6,25% aluminum in deodorants.
The product ingredients are listed so that the ingredients at the top of the list are those that are in the highest quantity in the product. The next ingredient listed is the one with the second largest quantity etc.
At Rudolph Care we've made a conscious choice as we use natural perfume within the limits of the requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, as we believe that the tender fragrance completes the luxury feeling. An allergen certificate follows all natural perfumes, assuring that the fragrance is not an allergenic. Naturally, we've prioritized a natural perfume free from the 26 allergenic perfumes that the EU recommends we avoid. Due to the fact that no allergy certification allows perfumes nor certain plant extracts, we do refrain from obtaining any.
There are exceptions though. Our products for kids are extra careful and therefore Lip Balm Kit, Mommy & Me and Kids Sun Lotion carry the certification AllergyCertified. This means that the product contains no known allergens or allergenic preservatives and that each individual ingredient has been assessed by a toxicologist and is 100% fragrance-free. This assures you that you're protecting your kid's skin with a clean conscience. Besides, our Mommy & Me also carries the allergy certification Asthma Allergy Nordic, making it an extra careful product for expectant mothers and mothers postpartum and their baby.
Yes, in some Rudolph Care products you will find palm oil on the ingredient list.
Our products contain RSPO-certified palm oil only, which is a demand from the organic certification COSMOS.
The RSPO certification ensures that the production takes place under sound circumstances. Among other criteria, the certification requires that the proces isn't subject to deforestation, that the best possible means to cultivation is used and that the environment in general must be protected and preserved. On top of that, new trees are being planted every time a tree is cut down. We do not use palm oil in its pure form, but as a compound ingredient - for example, the glycerin we use is a composition of coconut oil and RSPO-certified palm oil.
Mica is a shimmering, natural and easily degradable mineral that neither harms your health nor that of nature. Rudolph Care uses mica in selected products where the mineral gives the skin a subtle spark. Mica is accepted by both the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert Cosmos Organic. Rudolph Care only uses mica from partners who are able to prove that the mining is carried out in accordance with responsible sourcing, entirely distanced from all sorts of child labor. From 1st July 2021, we have suspended all sourcing of mica from India.
Q&A
We've answered all the frequently asked questions to sun protection here.
The sun is wonderful – and dangerous. So enjoy it with care. And remember the Danish Cancer Society's three simple rules:
Shade: Enjoy life in the shade between noon and 3 pm, when the sun is at its harshest and really showing its full strength.
Sun hat: Remember to wear a sun hat and cover your skin with loose clothing when the sun is at its highest.
Sunscreen: Always wear a good sunscreen – and plenty of it! Protect your skin every day. From the first glimpse of spring to the last autumn morning – and all the days in between when the sun is out. Is your skin sensitive to the sun? Use cream rather than oil.
The sun's rays contain two types of ultraviolet (UV) rays: UVA and UVB. These are light rays and invisible to the eye. It is important to protect yourself against both types of rays. UVB rays can cause sunburn and sun rash. UVB rays are the rays most likely to cause skin cancer, while UVA rays can damage the skin's DNA and cause premature ageing of the skin. The Danish Cancer Society recommends that you take extra care when the UV index is 3 or above. So seek shade, use a sun hat and sunscreen.
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and it is the protection that the product provides against UVB rays. The SPF factor is determined by testing sun exposure on human skin and the amount of sunscreen needed to prevent sunburn.
If you should go for SPF 15, 30 or 50 depends on several things. According to the official recommendations from The Danish Health Authority, SPF 15 is sufficient for sun in Denmark, though it may vary depending on your skin type. If you have pale skin, we recommend you use higher protection – SPF 30 or 50, if you are to stay in the sun for a longer period. Besides, we recommend SPF 30 as a minimum when you go to places where the sun is more intense than in Denmark. It’s always a good idea to check the UV-index and do a bit of research on your destination before going – it’s also a good idea to stay updated on the sun’s intensity in Denmark.
Sun filters are the active ingredients in your sun cream that prevent UV rays from penetrating the skin, either by reflecting or absorbing the sun’s rays. Physical filters reflect the rays, while chemical filters absorb them. At Rudolph Care, we have chosen to use five chemical sun filters to protect your skin in all our sun protection products. These five filters meet EU recommendations for the best UVA and UVB protection and have been approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. When something has been chemically produced, it means that it can be carefully controlled. This makes it possible for us to have 100% knowledge of the content and effect of the finished product. At Rudolph Care, we are generally of the conviction that good chemistry should be applied where it is of most benefit – and this is the case in our sun range. Chemical filters do not feel greasy or sticky and do not leave white streaks on the skin. They offer effective protection against both UVA and UVB rays by penetrating the upper layers of the skin – in contrast to physical filters that settle as a membrane on top of the skin. The chemical sun filters that protect your skin are:
Ethylhexyl triazone: chemical UVB filter.
Diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate: chemical UVA filter.
Diethylhexyl butamido triazone: chemical UVB filter.
Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine: chemical, oil-soluble UVA filter which has a synergy effect on UVB filters and other UV filters.
Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine: chemical, water-soluble UVA filter which has a synergy effect on UVB filters and other UV filters.
Much more than you think! The recommendations state that you should use a generous handful of cream (approx. 40 ml) for your entire body in order to achieve the SPF level indicated on the product label. For the face you need the amount equivalent to a teaspoon, i.e. 6 ml. A child needs a child-sized handful to cover the entire body. It’s quite a large amount, and new studies from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency show that the average Dane doesn’t use sufficient sun protection. A very thin application of SPF 15 sun cream translates into a mere SPF 2-4 on the skin, and that can mean potential sun damage.
We recommend applying two coats of sun cream – one right after the other. Apply generously to achieve full protection and follow the recommendations on seeking shade and avoiding sun at midday in order to get the best sun protection for your skin.
Always remember to reapply sun cream after swimming or sweating. The products are water-resistant but their sun protection efficacy is reduced after contact with water.
Protect yourself once too often rather than once too little – and after every dip, if you have been perspiring or you have dried yourself with a towel.
As a rule of thumb, always keep your sun products in the shade and at room temperature - preferably below 20 degrees celcius. At the beach do try to keep your sunscreen cool in the shade or with your cold beverages.
Rudolph Care’s sun products last for up to six months after they’re opened. If you have a few remains left over from last summer that were exposed to heat and sunlight, we recommend that you toss it. If you’ve stored the opened container in a cool, dark place, it’s fine to use. If the sun cream smells strange or separates, bin it.
The protection does not deteriorate. But the sun protection range does consist of organic, natural ingredients with limited shelf life and we can’t guarantee your cream to smell and feel just like we intend it to do if it has been opened and used for more than six month. That’s why we say that an opened sun product lasts for one sun season only.
In Kids Sun Lotion we’ve removed the active ingredients and the natural perfume. Though you’ll still find soothing, calming and moisturizing ingredients – cucumber, for example. The rest of the sun series contain plenty of active ingredients that nourish and care for the skin in the sun, and it contains natural perfume.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is your guarantee that the product you're using is considerate of both your health and that of the environment. It's also a quality stamp, ensuring nothing but good ingredients. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel allows only specific sun filters and prohibits sun filters that are on the EU's list of substances suspected of being endocrine disruptors or proven to be allergens.
Besides, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel prohibits the sun filters Benzophenone-3 and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate that harm corals - which is why you will never find these in our sun series.
This is due to the simple reason that at Rudolph Care we do not agree with COSMOS’ sunscreen filter policy. They only approve physical sun filters, whereas at Rudolph Care, we have chosen to use 5 effective chemical filters that neither feel greasy, sticky, nor leave a white residue, and at the same time, effectively protect against both UVA and UVB rays. All 5 chemical filters are approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, ensuring that they are a more environmentally friendly choice and do not contain endocrine disrupting substances or allergenic fragrance compounds.
No. This question is highly relevant though. Not many people think about how the products we apply on a daily basis impact the seas and oceans we swim in all over the world. When you use Rudolph Care sun cream, you can be sure that we have thought about these things for you. All Rudolph Care sun protection products carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel which ensures that your sun protection does not damage you or the environment around you – including precious coral reefs. The benzophenone-3 and ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate sun filters are suspected of being endocrine disruptors – and more recent studies show that these two sun filters change the DNA of corals and cause hormone disruptions which make young corals die. You will never see these two filters used in our products. This means that you can confidently take your Rudolph Care sun cream with you when you travel and swim in the sea without having to worry.
Because the sunscreen's texture, spreadability and characteristics are important to us. We have for example added nourishing ingredients such as chamomile and soothing and moisturizing cucumber. Unfortunately, Asthma Allergy Nordic doesn't approve of these ingredients and that’s why we’ve chosen not to be certified with Asthma Allergy Nordic. Kids Sun Lotion is certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – your guarantee that special consideration has been given to the environment and to your health. And that the quality is good. Kids Sun Lotion also carries the AllergyCertified label which is your guarantee that the product contains no known allergens or allergenic preservatives and that each individual ingredient has been assessed by a toxicologist and is 100% fragrance-free.
Our sun series contains between 20 and 25 percent organic ingredients. Under the list of ingredients, we state the organic percentage of the product concerned. 20 and 25 percent ecology may not seem like much, but water for instance counts as a natural ingredient and not as an organic one. And water (aqua on the ingredient list) is often the main ingredient.
Yes and no. Kids Sun Lotion doesn’t contain perfume, though the rest of the series contains a delicate, natural perfume made from natural oils without synthetic ingredients. We have chosen a natural perfume that is completely free of the 26 declarable allergenic fragrances that cause the strongest reactions in people and which the EU recommends avoiding.
Yes, all of our sun protection, besides Sun Face Cream, is water resistant. Though after bathing and drying, some of the sun protection will be washed off despite the water resistance. To maintain full protection, be sure to apply sunscreen after a dip in the water.
Well, you don’t HAVE to use aftersun, though you’ll do your skin a great favor if you do. Aftersun repairs and cools down your skin after a day in the sun – in our sun series you’ll find both the refreshing spray Aftersun Repair Spray and cooling gel, Aftersun Shimmer Sorbet or Aftersun Soothing Sorbet.
Always go for this rule of thumb: a handful for the body and the amount equivalent to a teaspoon for the face. To achieve optimum protection we recommend applying two coats of sunscreen, separating the recommended amounts into two applications. This both gives your skin a chance to keep up with the absorption of the sunscreen and you’ll minimize the risk of missing any spots.
Sunscreen can cause stains and discoloration to clothing and other items. Therefore, give the sunscreen time to absorb before getting dressed – it’s the sun filters that protect you from UVA & UVB rays that may cause stains. You can prevent it if you let yourself air-dry well. Also consider leaving your most delicate and white clothing at home. And lastly, you can minimize that risk of stains if you wash your hands after applying sunscreen.
If you already got a stain, we recommend following these three steps:
1. Apply ample liquid detergent to dyed fabrics directly on the stain and allow it to stand overnight. This will make the textile fibers lift and expand, making the stain easier to remove.
2. Wash the item according to the instructions on the label.
3. Repeat the process 2-3 times if necessary.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT use detergent with optical brighteners, bleach or stain remover with OXI action; it may worsen the stain and make it more difficult to remove.
Some sun creams can soften or dissolve nail polish, and even though that may sound a little toxic, there is nothing dangerous in our sun product. Sun creams today contain high UV protection with many filters, so it’s necessary to add a large quantity of softening oils in order to ensure that the sun cream applies smoothly to the skin. These oils are the reason that your nail polish may become softened. Nail polish requirements have also become stricter, which means that they dissolve more easily.
The short answer is YES! But we understand why the question is being asked. Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion is not Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified, as the certification, as a precautionary measure, does not approve the self-tanning ingredient DHA. Therefore, it is not due to the sun filters used in Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion that it does not carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The sun filters Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate (also called octinoxate) and Benzophenone-3 (also called oxybenzone) have harmful effects on corals and marine ecosystems, and neither of these sun filters are found in Rudolph Care's sun series – and of course not in Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion.
At Rudolph Care, we adhere to the EU's official definition of microplastics according to EU Regulation 2023/2055. Microplastics are defined here as solid, synthetic polymers where all particle dimensions are at most 5 mm, or polymers where the length is at most 15 mm and the length-to-diameter ratio is greater than 3. However, certain properties may exempt a polymer from being classified as microplastic.
Until now, there have been various unofficial definitions of microplastics, and according to these definitions, some of Rudolph Care’s products have contained microplastics. This is partly because some unofficial definitions do not differentiate between polymers. All plastics are polymers, but not all polymers are plastics.
Unfortunately, we have received news that the raw material supplier for Acrylates/C12-22 Alkyl Methacrylate Copolymer (found in Sun Face Cream SPF 50, Sun Body Lotion SPF 50, and Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50) cannot disprove that the polymer is microplastic. The polymer is part of a raw material containing a sun filter, and for that reason, the raw material cannot be removed from the product without affecting its protective efficacy. However, both we and the raw material supplier are working on finding a solution to this issue.
One of the earlier definitions classified both liquid and solid polymers as microplastics, but in the EU’s official definition, microplastics are only defined as solid, synthetic microplastic particles. For this reason, Hydrogenated Dimer Dilinoleyl/Dimethylcarbonate Copolymer was previously considered microplastic according to some definitions, but the polymer is not microplastic under the new EU definition, as it is liquid.
Some solid polymers, which are classified as microplastic according to the new definition, lose their microplastic properties during the blending process of our products. This is the case for Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylates Crosspolymer, which acts as a stabilizer in the product. Products containing this ingredient can therefore be microplastic-free, even though the polymer is defined as microplastic before being blended into the product.
The ingredients Ceteareth-12 and Ceteareth-20 are both vegetable oil-in-water emulsifiers and consistency agents, which are fully biodegradable and approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. They are added to stabilize the sun products.
If you have any further questions about our ingredients, you can always explore our ingredient lists here or write to us at contact@rudolphcare.com.
Q&A
We've answered all the frequently asked questions to hair care here.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is your guarantee of high quality and products which show greater consideration for the environment and your health than the law requires. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is also your assurance that the product does not contain ingredients from the EU list of substances suspected of being endocrine disruptors or classified as allergenic.
COSMOS is an organic certification with requirements based on the percentage of natural and organic ingredients in a product. The product must contain at least 95% natural, plant-based ingredients and at least 10% organic ingredients.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel and COSMOS certifications mean that an independent third party has verified that the shampoos from Rudolph Hair, and the ingredients they contain, meet their particular standards.
Forever Soft Conditioner is the sole product in the Rudolph Hair range that only bears the Swan label. This is because there is no natural softening conditioner ingredient that lives up to the quality and effect we believe a conditioner should have. It is the method of production and synthetic element of the active ingredient in a conditioner that Cosmos does not accept.
Despite our choice to have Forever Soft Conditioner labelled with the Swan only, we have not compromised on the high content of organic and natural ingredients.
Blossom Shampoo and Herbal Mint Shampoo both contain 54% organic ingredients, while 26% of the ingredients in Forever Soft Conditioner are organic. You can see the percentage of organic ingredients at the bottom of the list of ingredients on the product. COSMOS' minimum requirement for organic ingredients is 10%.
Our hair range contains only natural perfume made from natural oils without synthetic ingredients. We have chosen a natural perfume that is completely free of the 26 declarable allergenic fragrances that cause the strongest reactions in people and which the EU recommends avoiding. Blossom Shampoo and Forever Soft Conditioner contain notes of raspberry and violet, while Herbal Mint Shampoo has a mild scent of menthol.
The effective natural extracts and their properties set the shampoos apart from each other. Among other things, Herbal Mint Shampoo contains rosemary, sage and menthol, which prevent a dry, irritated scalp, and it has a mild scent of mint. Blossom Shampoo restores and nourishes dry, damaged hair with the help of calendula, wild rose hip and raspberry, with a subtle fragrance of flowers and berries.
Sulfate occurs naturally and is one of the detergents in the shampoos. There are various types of detergents containing sulfate, and there are many opinions on ingredients containing sulfate. In addition to acting as an effective detergent and cleansing the skin, some soaps containing too much sulfate can dry out and irritate the skin. The most conventional sulfate detergents such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) have not been used in Herbal Mint Shampoo and Blossom Shampoo, which instead contain the detergent Sodium Coco Sulfate, which is sulfate extracted from RSPO-certified palm oil and coconut oil. We have chosen to use a sulfate detergent in the shampoos to ensure the optimum quality and effect of our hair range. At the same time, we have prioritized a high content of natural moisturizing and nourishing ingredients to ensure that the skin is not irritated by the detergent.
Not only do our hair products meet the strict requirements of the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, but it is also completely free from the 26 declarable fragrance allergens on the EU’s warning list. All products are 100% free from potential endocrine disrupters, irradiated ingredients, synthetic colors and perfumes, essential oils and silicone.
Q&A
We've answered the frequently asked question about fragrance here.
Signature Notes is the scent of Rudolph Care. Light, volatile molecules open the fragrance with crisp, green top notes. These top notes are followed by soothing, soft and slightly powdery middle notes of iris and cotton flower at the heart of the fragrance, which is rounded off with deep, warm base notes including vanilla. A perfect balance between sparkling fresh green and warm sensuousness in one fragrance. Signature Notes will develop in concert with your skin and your own natural scent, and you will experience different dimensions to your natural scent over the course of your day.
The vast majority of fragrances are made from synthetic ingredients. That can mean that a synthetic fragrance with a rose scent has never been in the vicinity of an actual rose. The only clear advantage here is that, in the production of synthetic fragrances, the maker has 100 percent control over all substances and therefore knows every ingredient in the finished product. The production process and chemistry behind such a fragrance are very often incompatible with the methods approved for making organic products.
At Rudolph Care we’ve taken up the challenge, choosing to create a natural, certified eau de parfum spray and perfume oil where the fragrance is created using natural and organic ingredients.
The natural fragrance is crafted with great care and in a way that does not burden the environment. For this reason, natural fragrance is also far more costly to produce than traditional fragrances. All natural fragrances carry an allergy certification. We’ve created a natural fragrance that contains none of the 26 declarable fragrance allergens that the European Union recommends to avoid.
Signature Notes Eau de Parfum is a light and elegant eau de parfum spray created from natural fragrance, organic grapeseed extract and alcohol. It contains 20 percent perfume derived from natural ingredients for a delicate yet concentrated scent. Signature Notes Eau de Parfum can be sprayed directly onto the skin, but it is also suitable for spraying in the hair and on clothing.
Signature Notes Huile de Parfum is a luxurious and exclusive perfume oil with a carefully curated selection of delicate oils and Rudolph Care’s natural, distinctive signature fragrance. Signature Notes Huile de Parfum is crafted from the best organic oils of almond, acai and sea buckthorn, all of which are fragrance-free and thus do not interfere with the scent of the natural fragrance. It also features a dash of Vitamin E.
Tip: Signature Notes Huile de Parfum is an excellent alternative for those who tend to be sensitive to the alcohol found in traditional fragrance sprays.
Signature Notes Eau de Parfum can be used all over your body or in your hair. Lightly spritz it on your body and allow the sparkling, soft and warm fragrance notes to embrace you and melt together with your own natural scent.
Tip: If you’ve previously experienced sensitivity to fragrance, we recommend just a single spritz or two in your hair. This will ensure that you avoid direct contact with the skin, but you will still be enveloped by the balancing fragrance of Signature Notes Eau de Parfum, which will accompany you without causing irritation.
Dab Signature Notes Huile de Parfum on your inner wrists and inside the elbows, behind your knees and behind each earlobe. Apply it to your pulse points – the natural warmth there will deepen the fragrance notes.
Tip: Take care when you pamper yourself with this exclusive fragrance oil, as oil can transfer to clothing and other textiles. After applying Signature Notes Huile de Parfum, give yourself a moment to allow it to melt into your skin. Experience how the fragrance notes embrace you and become part of your own natural scent.
Signature Notes Eau de Parfum and Huile de Parfum are just as captivating on their own as they are together, if you’re dreaming of a deeper, more intense fragrance experience. Layer your fragrance and apply Signature Notes Huile de Parfum to your inner wrists and inside the elbows, behind your knees and behind each earlobe. Dab it on your pulse points. Finish with a light spritz of Signature Notes Eau de Parfum.
Tip: Start your day with a layer of Acai Body Lotion before you apply Signature Notes Eau de Parfum. The oils in the product will last longer on moisturized skin than on dry skin. Pop your little Signature Notes Huile de Parfum Purse Edition in your bag – then you can easily refresh your fragrance when you’re on the go.
Signature Notes is a certified organic fragrance, and because it is 100 percent natural and free of the 26 declarable fragrance allergens, the scent is both milder and more discreet than that of synthetic fragrances. It doesn’t steal the show, but it is memorable from the start. And that’s how we like our fragrance to be. Signature Notes leaves your body with a balanced fragrance – and whether you begin your day with Signature Notes Eau de Parfum or Huile de Parfum, both are perfect to combine with the elegant little Signature Notes Huile de Parfum Purse Edition that will fit in any bag so you can easily refresh and extend the understated fragrance throughout your day.
Rudolph Care wants to make a positive difference – both for your skin and for the world in which we live. That is why we create exclusive beauty products that take a sustainable approach to people and the environment. We ensure this by being certified with both the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the organic certification COSMOS. This dual certification is your guarantee that the contents and packaging of each individual product are carefully selected on the basis of cultivation, processing, manufacturing, working conditions and packaging that meet stringent requirements in terms of environment and health. This allows you to enjoy your luxurious Rudolph Care skincare products with a good conscience.
Naturally, we have the same requirements for Signature Notes, which in addition to being Rudolph Care’s first fragrance is also the very first in the world to boast two certifications. Signature Notes is also created entirely without any of the 26 declarable fragrance allergens that the European Union recommends to avoid. It was a long journey for Rudolph Care and our French perfumer Stephane, who ardently and stubbornly fought to create a natural, organic fragrance that meets the strict requirements of the two certifications while meeting Rudolph Care’s demands for exclusivity and natural, pure luxury.
Whether you choose natural or synthetic fragrances, the decision to use fragrance during pregnancy is always an individual one. Signature Notes was created on values with the utmost consideration of both body and environment. That’s why the fragrance is certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and COSMOS. When you apply Signature Notes, use it sparingly – less is more. For instance, you can spritz a little Eau de Parfum in your hair or on your favorite knitwear.
Q&A
We have answered the most frequently asked questions about Lips.
Lips by Rudolph Care combines the concepts of lip balm and lip gloss by bringing together intense nourishment and care and a bright shine and gloss effect. With its high content of organic oils from pomegranate seeds and açai, this lip gloss has the same nourishing properties as a lip serum. The lip glosses have an added natural, food-grade standard color and the glosses Josephine and Andrea are as well enriched with a sparkling, easily degradable mineral.
That depends on what you are doing, of course. If you are drinking, eating or kissing, it will disappear faster than if the gloss is left untouched.
Lips by Rudolph Care is not a lipstick, but a toned gloss and care product in one. Our certifications set out a string of requirements that we have to meet in order to carry both the Ecocert Cosmos Organic certification and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – these requirements impose various limits on color intensity. On the basis of these certification requirements, we have therefore chosen the colors we liked the best. These natural colors are food-grade standard. Andrea and Marie are the glosses with the strongest color.
It means that Lips by Rudolph Care is not like any lip gloss you have tried before. Our range of lip gloss is the first in the world to combine the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the Ecocert Cosmos Organic certification.
This means that you can be sure that Lips by Rudolph Care is concerned about and cares for you and nature in a full life cycle. It also means that you get a 100% natural lip gloss without preservatives, suspected harmful chemicals and endocrine disruptors, synthetic colors and perfume. Moreover, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel puts forward requirements for the use of emulsifiers that your lip gloss naturally also lives up to.
No, they do not. The taste and fragrance you experience come from the 100% natural ingredients.
Choose Josephine (04) for a discreet rose tone. Choose Andrea (02) for a red glow and Marie (05) for a freshly pink berry color. The philosophy behind Lips by Rudolph Care is that the products should first and foremost be nourishing and moisturizing lip products – with the added benefit of a discreet color. The colors we use in Lips by Rudolph Care are food-grade standard.
The Lips products are first and foremost a carefully combined list of nourishing, softening ingredients that provide intense care for your lips. That is why all the versions are full of all the best from nature to emphasize and nourish the naturalness of your lips.

The açai berry which grows in the wild and lush shadow of the Amazon is the heart of Rudolph Care. That is why you will also find the oil from the berries in Lips by Rudolph Care – and with good reason. Açai berries have revitalizing properties in their unique concentration of antioxidants, vitamins C and E, omega 6 and 9 and minerals (incl. iron and potassium). We have added natural, food-grade standard* color to all the Lips products.
No. All the lip products contain lanolin and certified organic beeswax and Marie (05) contains natural carmine. We have chosen to add these ingredients for their nourishing and nurturing properties and good color effect – and for their contribution to a soft, luxurious consistency in the product. We only use certified organic beeswax to ensure that we only use ingredients from happy bees who live a good life. The lanolin we use is exclusively a by-product from wool production.
No – all variants contain no preservatives.
When you have opened your lipgloss, it will stay fresh for six months.
Lanolin is a fat found in sheep’s wool. The lanolin used by Rudolph Care is exclusively a by-product from wool production. Lanolin is excellent for dry and cracked skin because it places a fine barrier on the skin and protects it against loss of moisture – as well as preserving the skin’s elasticity and flexibility.
Marbling occurring in your lip gloss is normal. The marbling has no impact on the benefit or care of the product, and it usually disappears when you use your lip gloss regularly and increase circulation in the packaging. The marbling happens when the product is placed in its packaging, and the natural ingredients react to temperature changes. Lips products consist of 100% natural ingredients that both live up to and combine the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the Ecocert Cosmos Organic certification. This in itself is a task that both brings strengths and imposes very natural (good) limits on the use of emulsifiers, for example.
Does the color of your lip gloss not look quite the same as the one in the picture – or the one you bought previously? There is an explanation for that. All the versions of Lips by Rudolph Care have been created using 100% natural ingredients, but depending on harvest conditions and processing colors may vary. Lips by Rudolph Care does not contain synthetic colorings – only natural ones which may also mean slight variations from production to production.
The castor oil used by Rudolph Care is organic, cold-pressed and is of excellent, exclusive quality. It has been extracted from the castor bean and is a nourishing and moisturizing oil.
Generally, castor oil is a raw material that can fluctuate in quality depending on the industry, supplier and manufacturer you work with – which is why Rudolph Care has a clear goal of using only excellent, efficient and luxurious castor oil as approved by both the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert Cosmos Organic.
We use the castor oil in pure, organic form, but also combined with other ingredients to achieve a unique combination of softness, nourishment and just the right consistency.
The Marie gloss gets its color from natural carmine that gives the lips a a fresh raspberry tint. Carmine is a red color of natural origin that is food-grade standard.
Q&A
We've answered all the frequently asked questions to our self tanning series here.
Rudolph Cares self tan series is a series that enriches your skin with a beautiful golden glow – without the sun's rays. The three variants without SPF are The Classic, The Lotion, and The Mousse that nourish and add moisture with a high level of active ingredients. The variant with SPF is Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion SPF 30 that combines nourishment, summer glow and sun protection.
It all depends on the variant you choose.
A Hint of Summer – The Classic is self tanning drops for face and body; you simply blend with your face cream or body lotion/body oil.
A Hint of Summer – The Lotion is a self tanner and body lotion in one product.
A Hint of Summer – The Mousse is a moisturizing body mousse with a self tanning effect to use over your lotion or oil.
Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion SPF 30 is a sun product and self tanner in one. Apply to the body at least 30 minutes before going out into the sun.
Our A Hint of Summer series of drops, mousse and body lotion is Ecocert COSMOS Organic certified and Vegan Trademark certified. Our Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion is Vegan Trademark certified. So, self-tanners don’t carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – and we would like to explain why!
At Rudolph Care, we view our certifications as a positive tool for education and change: a third party that guarantees that what we say and write about our products is true, just as the certifications help to emphasize the quality, effect and impact of our products in the world. We always develop our products to meet the standards of our core certifications – the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert COSMOS Organic – but unfortunately it is not always possible to attain both. If we create a fantastic product that both we and many of you love, our team of experts carefully evaluates the overall experience of the product, the exclusive ingredients, the effect and the quality before we make an addition or exclusion to its formula.
Our self tanning series doesn’t carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel due to the ingredient DHA (dihydroxyacetone), a sugar molecule that turns the skin golden brown, but which is suspected of developing potentially allergenic formaldehyde over time and depending on storage. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel therefore no longer approves self tanners containing DHA.
Formaldehyde is everywhere in our everyday life. It is formed naturally in the body, it is in our indoor climate, as well as in air pollution outside. It is a part of our food and is also found as an impurity in many cosmetic products, although it is neither added deliberately nor should it be there.
The Nordic Swan label's greatest task is to respond to the latest knowledge and development. More detailed studies are currently underway, and the new policy is based on a precautionary approach. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel ensures the safety of those who suffer from allergic reactions and/or contact dermatitis by no longer certifying products containing DHA.
If you know that you are predisposed to allergic reactions and/or have previously experienced contact dermatitis or other types of allergic reactions, you can perform a patch test on your skin with some self tanner. If, on the other hand, you have never previously experienced allergic reactions when using our self tanning series, you can continue to safely use the series' products.
Rudolph Care's founder, Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph, says:
"When we develop products at Rudolph Care, we always aim to combine certifications that complement each other. It is part of Rudolph Care's DNA to care for both people and planet while creating products that are effective, luxurious and stimulate all the senses. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a time-limited certification as ingredient requirements are continually evaluated and updated according to the latest developments. This underpins the Nordic Swan Ecolabel's very existence: to be watchful.
We believe that the self tanning series still lives up to Rudolph Care's requirements for responsible chemistry that is environmentally friendly and free from known endocrine disruptors. We also firmly believe that we continue to have some of the best natural self tanners on the market.”
Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion SPF 30 exclusively carries the Vegan Trademark. For the same reason as with the A Hint of Summer self-tanners, Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion SPF 30 does not carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. The reason the product does not carry the Ecocert COSMOS Organic certification is the same reason our sun series does not carry the organic certification: at Rudolph Care, we do not agree with COSMOS’ sunscreen filter policy. They only approve physical filters, whereas at Rudolph Care, we have chosen to use 5 effective chemical filters that neither feel greasy, sticky, nor leave a white residue, and at the same time, effectively protect against both UVA and UVB rays. All 5 chemical filters are approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, ensuring that they are a more environmentally friendly choice and do not contain endocrine disrupting substances or allergenic fragrance compounds.
Remember these three essential steps when applying self tanner.
1. Get the smoothest and most even result on exfoliated skin. Use a body scrub and/or face scrub before you start.
2. Moisture is key when applying self tanner. Before starting, make sure to generously moisture extra dry areas like elbows, knees and ankles. When using A Hint of Summer – The Mousse, we recommend nourishing your body with a body lotion or oil before applying the self tanning mousse, as this product doesn't provide the same amount of moisture as the two other self tanners.
3. Patience is everything when applying self tanner – it really pays off! Be meticulous and start from your feet in order to see where you have been. Allow the product to absorb before putting on clothes and continuing your day. You risk stains on your clothes if the product isn't fully absorbed. Follow this guide if the stains are already there:
1. Wet the stain with laundry detergent for colored fabrics and leave overnight – optionally in a closed plastic bag. This makes the fibers expand, allowing the discoloration to loosen.
2. Wash the clothes according to the care label.
3. If necessary, repeat the process 2-3 times.
Please note: We don't recommend laundry detergent with optical brighteners, bleach, or spot removers with OXI-effect, as these can worsen the stains making them more challenging to get out.
All three leave your skin with a beautiful and natural summer glow – but possess individual qualities and applications. The Classic is self tanning drops for face and body that you blend into your daily face cream and/or body lotion. The Lotion is a two-in-one self tanner and body lotion that nourishes your skin with an abundance of active, natural ingredients while a natural summer glow develops. The Mousse is an airy and moisturizing self tanning mousse to use over your body lotion or body oil.
Get to know the three different self tanners here and how to use them.
Use the same amount of cream/oil, that you normally would; add 1-3 pumps for your face and 4-6 pumps for the body.
Apply the product to your face and/or body. Be extra careful distributing the product around your eyebrows (especially if you have fair brows), jawline, elbows, knees, ankles and hairline – optionally remove excess product with a damp cloth. Afterward wash your hands thoroughly. Allow for the product to fully absorb before putting on your clothes.
We recommend you use the same dose as you would applying your daily body lotion – optionally, a smaller application if you have a very fair complexion.
We suggest 2-4 pumps per body part but try it out for yourself – someone prefers 6 pumps per leg, whereas others are happy with 4 or fewer pumps. It's a matter of preference.
A Hint of Summer - The Mousse is our most intense self tanner product, providing the most notable result. Before using The Mousse, we recommend applying body lotion/oil to your skin – we have experienced this ensures a beautiful, smooth glow and the skin gets all the care it needs.
You can if you like, but it isn't necessary. Just make sure to wash your hands thoroughly after application. If you applicate your entire body, wash your hands between every body part, wash after legs and buttocks, stomach and back, and lastly, arms and chest. That way, your hands will not darken before you finish the application.
To create a fine and subtle transition to hands and feet, simply mix one pump of A Hint of Summer – The Classic with hand cream or body lotion. Apply without touching your nails; if necessary, wipe clean with a washcloth.
Maybe it's your first time using a self tanner, and you are a little anxious thinking about color intensity and potential streaking. But we can assure you; it's way easier than it sounds.
If you're unsure about the intensity of the color, test it on an unseen part of your body and see how the self tanner develops on your skin. This indicates the tanner's effect and will give you the courage to complete a full routine.
Fear not, if you experience streaks – believe it or not, this is solvable. Should you, despite of careful application, notice irregularities, there are easy fixes. A shower will naturally remove some of the color but will presumably not be enough. Instead, use a gentle exfoliating product and carefully and gently exfoliate the area. Afterward, the result will be significantly better. Also, remember to finish off with lots of moisture from creams or oil - this too will help get rid of visible streaks and patches.
A tip to erase patches or streaks is to rub the area with a cut lemon and wipe with a damp cloth.
Yes, that will work just fine.
The Mousse provides the most intense glow of all three self tanners, making it ideal should you prefer fast, visible results. In return, The Mousse treatment is more time-consuming, as we recommend moisturizing your skin with body lotion, before applying The Mousse – and because you need to concentrate on distributing the light foam evenly all over the body.
Some days you might want a little glow to your cheeks, and you'll want to go for the tanning drops in The Classic, as this product is the only one, we recommend for your face.
And sometimes, you want to combine your body treatment into one product, and you should reach for The Lotion. It's a two-in-one self tanner and body lotion, packed with natural ingredients that nourish, moisturize and strengthen the skin.
If you want both sun protection and a self-tanning glow, then go for Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion
A Hint of Summer – The Classic is suitable for both your face and body, whereas we solely recommend using The Lotion, The Mousse and Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion on the body.
Yes, but some may find the product difficult to distribute evenly. You may want to do a patch test somewhere on your body that is not usually visible and await the results before you decide to use the drops on their own. Before applying the drops on their own, remember to moisturize the dry spots for a smooth glow.
The self tanners absorb quickly and aren't greasy or sticky. Wait until the product is fully absorbed into the skin before putting on your clothes to avoid staining.
All four self tanners leave your skin with a gorgeous golden tone. The intensity builds upon your natural skin tone and varies depending on how many doses you choose to use. If you prefer a more intense tan, you can easily build it up by repeating the treatment in the next few days.
The Mousse provides the most intense glow of all four self tanners, making it ideal should you prefer fast, visible results.
It depends on the tan you wish to achieve. We recommend you build your tan gradually over a few days and pause the applications when you have reached the desired intensity. Repeat the routine when you want to refreshen the glow.
Our self tanners typically last for 2-3 days. After that, it's necessary to repeat the treatment.
Make your summer glow last longer by thoroughly preparing your skin with a gentle scrub. Exfoliating the face and body helps boost cellular renewal and remove dead skin cells, leaving your skin with a smooth surface and enabling it to absorb the DHA molecule more easily. You can also maintain your beautiful self tan glow by moisturizing your skin morning and evening.
Feel free to use self tanner all year round – anytime you like to pamper yourself with a golden summer glow. A Hint of Summer and Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion are especially fantastic for those first summer days when your legs see sunshine for the first time in months or if you want to make your holiday tan last.
Perhaps you're invited to a special event or party where you want a little extra glow. Either way, remember to build your tan gradually, if the invite says Saturday, start the treatment on Thursday – and preferably even earlier.
It varies depending on how your skin obtains and reacts to the tan molecule DHA. But typically, the tan develops within 2-6 hours.
Wait until the glow has fully developed before showering. The product will wash off if you shower just after application. Instead, wait the recommended 2-6 hours.
You can use A Hint of Summer - The Classic with any favorite skincare product. If you already have a favorite cream or oil, simply add the recommended dose to the product.
Both cream and oil give beautiful results to the skin. But it may require a little extra patience if you mix the product with oil. Since both oil and A Hint of Summer have a liquid consistency, it can be more difficult to ensure an even distribution of the product. Take your time if you are using oil and apply the mixture with long, smooth strokes across the body and make sure to carefully massage the mixture all over your face.
Our self tanners has a mild and delicate fragrance originating from the series' ingredients mixed with a hint of Rudolph Care's natural signature fragrance.
You can easily build a beautiful glow with our self tanners, but be aware that it takes patience to achieve a deep, sun-bronzed tone. Start with blending the recommended number of A Hint of Summer - The Classic drops with your cream or oil – or apply the recommended dosage of The Lotion, The Mousse og Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion. The final tan intensity will be visible after 2-6 hours. Afterward, you can repeat the treatment as often as you wish.
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a naturally derived molecule found in plant, animal and human cells. Its self tanning effect is due to a tan building up on the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis). DHA reacts with proteins, peptides and amino acids in the epidermis to generate golden polymers, called melanoidins, which lend the skin an even, golden tone. DHA is natural and plant-based.
In order to avoid irregularities, it is important to prepare the skin before applying A Hint of Summer. Begin your treatment with a gentle exfoliation of both face and body to give your skin the best foundation for a smooth result. Açai Body Scrub, Açai Facial Scrub Mask and Exfoliating Soap for hands and feet is a great way to start your treatment.
Self tanner tends to settle and build up in dry skin areas. So it can be helpful to use a little cream or oil on dry areas such as elbows, knees and heels before applying self tanner. This will make it a lot easier to apply the product evenly ensuring the best result possible.
After applying A Hint of Summer – The Classic to your face, you can also prevent irregularities such as streaks, patches and edges by dabbing your jawline, eyebrows and hairline with a dry cotton pad to remove excess product. Be extra careful distributing the product around your eyebrows (especially if you have fair brows).
Apply the product with long, smooth strokes across the entire body to avoid streaks, edges and spots and be extra careful with the application on areas such as ankles, wrists, knees and elbows.
Hands and feet:
A tip to create an unnoticeable transition to hands and feet is to mix one pump of A Hint of Summer – The Classic with your hand cream or body lotion. Apply without touching your nails; if necessary, wipe clean with a washcloth.
Don't panic! Should you, despite careful application notice irregularities, there're easy fixes. A shower will naturally remove some of the color but will presumably not be enough. Instead, use a gentle exfoliating product and carefully and gently exfoliate the area. Afterwards, the result will be significantly better. Also, remember to finish with lots of moisture from creams or oil - this will also help eliminate visible streaks and patches.
A tip to erase patches or streaks is to rub the area with a cut lemon and wipe with a damp cloth.
The self tanner effect develops on contact with your skin and generally adds glow to your skin only. But there is a small risk that the product can transfer some effect onto fabric. You can avoid clothing stains by allowing the product to fully absorb into the skin before putting on your clothes. We also recommend that you use self tanner in your night cream or oil, which allows the product to develop and absorb overnight so it won't stain your clothes the next day. You may want to place a towel over white or light-colored pillows to ensure that the product does not transfer onto your bedding. If staining does occur, follow these laundry instructions:
1. Wet the stain with laundry detergent for colored fabrics and leave overnight – optionally in a closed plastic bag. This makes the fibers expand, allowing the discoloration to loosen.
2. Wash the clothes according to the care label.
3. If necessary, repeat the process 2-3 times.
Please note: We don't recommend laundry detergent with optical brighteners, bleach or spot removers with OXI-effect, as these can worsen the stains making them more challenging to get out.
We recommend that you allow the product to absorb into the skin before continuing with your day and getting dressed. Optimal results are achieved by allowing the product to absorb for 20 minutes before putting on clothes. You can use self tanner overnight as part of your evening routine, so the product has time to develop and absorb into the skin. You'll wake up with a fresh, sun-kissed glow.
The short answer is YES! But we understand why the question is being asked because Self Tanning Sun Body Lotion isn’t Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified, which is the immediate guarantee that a product is coral- friendly. The product does not carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel because the certification, as a precautionary measure, does not approve the self-tanning ingredient DHA.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, we generally recommend following the 'less-is-more' principle when choosing skincare products; choose as few products as possible. In our opinion, self-tanner is a 'nice-to-have' product and not necessary to provide your skin with the moisture and care it needs. Of course, it is always entirely up to you which products you use on your skin during your pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
