Why is body sunscreen important?
Body sunscreen is an essential part of your skincare routine when the sun is out. It protects not only against the visible effects of sun exposure, but also against more hidden damage. At Rudolph Care, we take pride in combining reliable sun protection with ingredients that moisturize and nourish the skin.
Protects against UVA and UVB
UVB rays are responsible for sunburn, while UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and can lead to premature aging, pigmentation changes and reduced elasticity. By choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen, you protect your skin against both types of rays.
Reduces the risk of skin damage and skin cancer
Regular use of body sunscreen helps reduce the risk of skin cancer and other sun-related damage. Even on cloudy days, UV rays penetrate the clouds and affect the skin, making sunscreen a daily necessity whenever the UV index exceeds 3.
Moisturizing ingredients keep skin supple
Rudolph Care’s sun products combine SPF protection with nourishing and moisturizing ingredients that care for the skin while it is protected. This helps prevent dryness, leaves the skin feeling supple and gives a radiant glow.
Choose the right body sunscreen
When choosing body sun protection, it is important to consider your skin type, activity level and how long you will be in the sun. At Rudolph Care, you will find products that meet different needs and preferences.
For prolonged time in the sun
If you plan to spend long hours in the sun, high SPF and broad-spectrum protection are essential.
- As a general rule, choose SPF 30 or 50 for high-level protection. This helps reduce the risk of damage during prolonged sun exposure. If you have very fair skin, aim for SPF 50 and create shade with clothing, a sunhat, parasol and similar, so your skin is not exposed all day.
- Water-resistant formulations are ideal for the beach, pool or active days with swimming. All Rudolph Care body sunscreens are water-resistant.
Sun Body Lotion SPF 30 & SPF 50 are bestsellers because they combine sun protection with nourishing care. The rich lotion keeps the skin moisturized without feeling greasy or leaving a white cast, making it a natural choice for long days outdoors.
Sun Balm SPF 50 is created for those who need high protection during active days – or simply love a buttery-soft texture that melts into the skin. The rich balm absorbs quickly, cares for the skin and stays on even with sweat and water exposure.
Sunscreen that doesn’t feel greasy
For many, texture is just as important as protection. A lightweight feel and fast absorption make body sunscreen easy to use without a sticky sensation. At Rudolph Care, it is essential that our sunscreens are formulated so they do not feel greasy, sticky or leave a white cast. Sunscreen should feel good to use – and that is why our range raises the bar with moisturizing ingredients and stable sun filters that protect the skin effectively.
For dry or sensitive skin
For dry or sensitive skin, it is important to choose a sunscreen that both protects and cares. Gentle, moisturizing formulations are key.
- Moisturizing ingredients ensure that the skin remains soft while protected. All Rudolph Care sunscreens are developed with nourishing body care as their foundation.
- The Nordic Swan Ecolabel ensures that the sunscreen is as gentle as possible for both you and nature.
- If your skin is very sensitive, or if you wish to avoid natural fragrance, we recommend Sun Balm SPF 50, Sun Stick SPF 50 and Kids Sun Lotion SPF 30 & SPF 50. These fragrance-free sun products are also recommended for those who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding and wish to opt for the most gentle formulations possible.
- If your skin is very sensitive to the sun and you dream of a glow without spending much time in direct sunlight, we recommend exploring our self-tanning range A Hint of Summer. Our four self-tanners contain the natural sugar molecule DHA, which gives the skin an even, sun-kissed tone within a few hours – completely without sun exposure. Please note that the A Hint of Summer range is not Nordic Swan Ecolabel certified. You can read more about this on each product page under FAQ.

Tips for correct application
To achieve optimal protection, correct application is just as important as choosing the right sunscreen. Follow these simple tips:
1. Apply generously 30 minutes before sun exposure. Use approximately one teaspoon for the face and a handful for the body. This is a generous amount, so feel free to apply in two layers – this also reduces the risk of missing areas. Reapply every two hours, or after swimming, sweating or towel drying.
2. Pay special attention to exposed areas such as shoulders, arms and back. Do not forget the neck and feet.
3. Combine sunscreen with clothing, shade and a sunhat for extra protection, especially during peak hours between 12 and 3 pm.
4. Use water-resistant sunscreen at the beach or pool so you can enjoy the water without worry. Rudolph Care’s sunscreens are made with respect for the ocean and marine ecosystems.
Stable chemical UV filters
At Rudolph Care, we are proud of the way we have chosen to formulate our sun care products. We use five chemical UV filters, all of which are approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. This means they have been assessed and approved by an independent third party and meet strict chemical requirements related to both human health and environmental protection.
The chemical UV filters that protect your skin are:
- Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine: Chemical UVA filter that also has a synergistic effect on UVB filters and other UV filters.
- Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Acrylates/C12-22 Alkyl Methacrylate Copolymer, Arginine, Coco-Glucoside, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Aqua: Chemical UVA filter that also has a synergistic effect on UVB filters and other UV filters.
- Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate: Chemical UVA filter.
- Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone: Chemical UVB filter.
- Ethylhexyl Triazone: Chemical UVB filter.
But wait, “chemical”?
The word chemical can easily raise concerns and may sound negative, but it does not have to be. When chosen carefully, chemistry can be both safe and effective. We have chosen chemical UV filters because they allow us to develop sun care products with high, broad-spectrum protection while maintaining a pleasant skin feel and meeting the requirements for Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification.
Why don’t we use mineral filters?
This is a question we are often asked. The answer is closely linked to our commitment to using only UV filters that can be approved by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, as well as our high product standards and uncompromising approach to sun protection.
For many years, the mineral filter titanium dioxide was not permitted under the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Although the criteria have since changed and titanium dioxide is now allowed, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel still does not approve the mineral UV filter zinc oxide. Without zinc oxide, it is difficult to achieve high, broad-spectrum protection above SPF 30 using mineral filters alone.
For this reason, we have chosen chemical UV filters, which make it possible to develop Nordic Swan Ecolabel-certified sun care products, including our most popular SPF 50 variants, while delivering the sensorial experience we want. Another reason we favour chemical filters is that they do not leave the skin feeling greasy or sticky, nor do they leave a white cast.
Mineral filters leave a white cast on the skin unless they are used in nano form. We have actively chosen not to use nanoparticles in our products, although we continue to follow developments in this area closely.
