Rudolph Care's Certifications
Certifications
“Where does your cream go once you’ve applied it to your skin?”
That’s a question Andrea Elisabeth Rudolph, founder of Rudolph Care, often asks when explaining our certifications.
When you apply a product to your skin, it becomes a part of you. Some of it is absorbed by the body – some is washed off in the shower or carried into the ocean when you swim. That’s why we feel a deep sense of responsibility. For you, and for nature. A product should be able to break down without harmful chemicals – and be gentle on groundwater, wildlife, and the ecosystem.
We often forget how close beauty products actually are to us. They’re applied daily, directly to the skin and hair, becoming part of our bodies and our routines. That’s why at Rudolph Care, we set high standards for what our products contain and how they affect both people and the environment.
As a responsible company, we take care of the entire journey. Our certifications help ensure that our products behave responsibly throughout their life cycle – from production and packaging to use, biodegradability, and waste sorting. We wear them with pride. They matter to us, and we use them as a positive tool – a trusted third party that verifies that what we say and write about our products is true.
In the same way, these certifications are valuable guides for you.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official environmental label of the Nordic countries. Its purpose is to reduce environmental impact – for the benefit of people, animals, and the planet’s resources. The certification takes the entire life cycle into account, from raw materials to production, use, degradation, disposal, and recycling of packaging.
To achieve certification, a product must meet a number of strict requirements in all relevant stages of its life cycle, including any chemicals used.
- Nordic Swan Ecolabelled skincare and haircare products are free from MI and other preservatives classified as allergenic.
- They meet stringent health requirements for chemicals. The use of PFAS, substances classified as carcinogenic, substances that can harm reproduction or potentially damage genetic material, and substances that are endocrine-disrupting or suspected of being so, according to EU and national authorities, is strictly prohibited.
- They also meet strict environmental requirements for chemicals to prevent long-term negative effects on nature (biodegradability), accumulation of harmful chemicals in animals and humans (bioaccumulation), and substances that are toxic to aquatic life (ecotoxicity).
- The packaging of care products must contribute to a circular economy. The amount of packaging is limited, and its design and composition must promote recyclability.
- The products contain no microplastics.
- Skincare and haircare products do not contain perfume.
- The certification also ensures that the responsible sourcing of renewable raw materials is promoted, and any palm oil or palm kernel oil used must be RSPO-certified.

Ecocert COSMOS Organic is a European certification for organic cosmetics and skincare, used in more than 45 countries. The certification sets strict requirements for the content and origin of natural and organic ingredients.
Our products must, among other things, meet the following criteria:
- For Ecocert COSMOS Organic–certified products, the percentage of natural and organic ingredients must be clearly stated.
- To achieve certification, at least 95% of the ingredients must be of natural origin.
- At least 10% of the ingredients in rinse-off products and at least 20% in leave-on products must be organic.
- At least 95% of the natural oils and extracts in the product must be organic.

We use the AllergyCertified label to create extra gentle products for children and for those who are pregnant and/or breastfeeding.
The Rudolph Care products carrying the AllergyCertified label are Lip Balm Kit, Kids Sun Lotion SPF 30 and SPF 50, Mommy & Me, and Inner Care.
AllergyCertified products must, among other things, meet the following criteria:
- They contain no known allergens or allergenic preservatives.
- Every single ingredient is assessed by a toxicologist.
- The products are 100% perfume-free.

The Asthma-Allergy Nordic label makes it easy to avoid unnecessary chemicals and minimize the risk of allergic reactions and the development of allergies.
At Rudolph Care, the products carrying this certification are Mommy & Me, and Inner Care
Asthma-Allergy Nordic–certified products must, among other things, meet the following criteria:
- They do not contain ingredients known to commonly cause allergies.
- They are free from perfume, MI, and formaldehyde.

The vast majority of Rudolph Care products carry the Vegan Trademark certification, with the exception of a few products that contain natural beeswax, honey, pullulan (created with the help of enzymes derived from milk and eggs), and/or lanolin and carmine.
We are highly conscious of our use of these ingredients. For example, we only use organically certified honey extract and beeswax, and our lanolin is exclusively a byproduct of wool production.
Furthermore, it has always been a given that we never test our products on animals. In fact, we’re happy to test them on ourselves.

B Corp is the certification that brings together all our work as a responsible company.
In 2021, we became a certified B Corp — something we’re very proud of. Rudolph Care was founded on the desire to advance sustainability in the beauty industry and to contribute to positive change in the world. Our B Corp certification is an important tool in achieving that purpose.
To become a certified B Corp, a company is assessed on a wide range of parameters that evaluate its impact from the inside out. All certified B Corps share the declared ambition of meeting very high standards for both individuals and society. No matter the field, being a B Corp means striving to be the best for the world.
Rudolph Care achieved its first B Corp certification in 2021 with a score of 88.9.
In 2024, we were recertified with a score of 100.9.
You can learn more about our score and our engagement across the five categories — Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers — here:
https://www.bcorporation.net/en-us/find-a-b-corp/company/rudolph-care/The certification process begins with approximately 250 questions that explore how a company minimizes its negative impact and strengthens its positive one. Every answer must be documented, and the entire application is reviewed by B Lab with close attention to integrity, consistency, and credibility.
Within the B Corp framework, a distinction is made between operational improvements, actions that apply across industries, and impact business models, which require measurable efforts within specific areas. At Rudolph Care, we work actively to integrate as many of these models as possible. During our recertification, we added a new model: Health and Wellness. This model is awarded to companies whose products or services have a documented, positive impact on human health — in our case, it’s our SPF 30 and SPF 50 sun care products that qualify. We’re proud of this recognition, as caring for the health of both people and nature lies at the heart of Rudolph Care.
We have also maintained our three existing impact business models: Toxin Reduction, Supply Chain Poverty Alleviation, and Mission Locked.
In our B Corp work, Rudolph Care is among the 26 companies — including Davines, Skandinavisk, Dr. Bronner’s, The Body Shop, and Rituals — that founded the B Beauty Coalition. The coalition aims to share hard-earned knowledge and best practices within logistics, packaging, and ingredients. Fundamentally, the B Beauty Coalition seeks to guide other beauty brands in avoiding some of the pitfalls we’ve faced on our own journey as a responsible business.
Since its founding, the coalition has grown to more than three times its original size.
One of its key outcomes is the B Beauty Navigator; a tool that helps beauty companies and consumers make more informed, sustainability-focused choices. Explore it here: https://www.bcorpbeauty.org/b-beauty-navigator/

How we choose certifications
Rudolph Care creates exclusive and advanced beauty products that act responsibly and care for both people and the environment. That’s why the vast majority of our products are certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, in a unique combination with the organic certification Ecocert COSMOS Organic. At the same time, they are completely free from the 26 known allergenic fragrance substances that the EU recommends avoiding.
This double certification is your guarantee that both the contents and the packaging of each product are carefully selected to ensure that cultivation, processing, production, working conditions, and packaging all meet strict environmental and health requirements.
We always aim to develop products that meet the criteria for both of our core certifications, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert COSMOS Organic, but unfortunately, it’s not always possible to achieve both. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Ecocert COSMOS Organic are two very different certifications and can often be challenging to combine, as they evaluate different parameters and focus on different aspects. Ecocert COSMOS Organic is primarily concerned with the origin of ingredients, while the Nordic Swan Ecolabel focuses on the biodegradability of ingredients, finished products, and packaging.
At Rudolph Care, we constantly balance our certifications, ingredient lists, and the purpose of each product. Our choice of certifications is always a result of thoughtful decisions — decisions that can be explained and that unite responsible, high-quality products with everything we dream beauty products can be. It’s in this ongoing balance that Rudolph Care finds its strength and stands out for its quality.
We are proud of our many certifications and are always happy to elaborate if you have any questions. You can contact us at contact@rudolphcare.com.
